and dedicated by Erle Stanley Gardner to the title page. The dedication reads : To Rob with lots of the best from Uncle Erle. Erle stanley Gardner June 1954. The recipient was Doctor R P Brittain, from the University of Glasgow - a doctor, criminologist and barrister. Brittain was lecturing in Harvard in 1948 on Homicide Investigation and Gardner attended the seminars while he was writing The Case of the Dubious Bridegroom. In the foreword to that book Gardner states : ...Brittain ..was not only a mine of information as to practical detective work on this side of the water, but was able to furnish the latest information as to British and European police methods of crime detection.
