A UK first edition, first impression.
Wrapper : The evocative period wrapper on this copy ( artwork by T Richie ) is bright and complete. It is unclipped, showing the price 7s 6d on the inside flap. The front panel is bright and unfaded, showing a touch of bruising at the edges and trivial nicking to the corners. The spine is clean and unfaded. It shows light scuffing and rubbing to the ends. The back panel is sound, lightly soiled and showing a hint of wear to the edges. Looks sharp in protective plastic.
Book : The book is square and very tight. The boards are clean and unfaded. The corners are sharp. The spine ends are gently bruised. The pages are clean. No foxing. The closed page edges are slightly dusty. There are no loose or dog-eared pages. The binding is solid and without cracked hinges. There is a small, neat contemporary ( dated 1944 ) previous ownership inscription on the front pastedown. A nice copy in a protected wrapper.
