EU delivery: taxes and customs charges

We welcome orders from customers throughout the European Union. As our books are dispatched from the UK, import VAT and customs charges may apply. Please read the guidance below before ordering.

Books totalling €150 or less

For eligible orders, we recommend purchasing through our Cheltenham Rare Books shop on AbeBooks. AbeBooks collects applicable VAT at checkout through the EU’s Import One Stop Shop (IOSS) scheme.

These orders are sent Delivered Duty Paid (DDP). This means we arrange payment of the applicable customs duty and clearance charges, so you should not receive a further bill on delivery. These costs are included in our delivery charge; if an adjustment is needed, we will request your agreement before dispatch.

The €150 limit applies to the combined value of the books in the shipment, excluding separately stated delivery charges. If your order is close to this limit, please contact us before purchasing.

Books totalling more than €150

IOSS does not apply to shipments above €150. Please contact us before ordering with details of the books you would like and your delivery address. We can provide a quote for delivery including applicable taxes and customs clearance charges.

Ordering directly from our website

Our website does not collect EU import VAT at checkout. If you would prefer to order directly from us, please contact us first so we can confirm the full delivery cost and whether taxes and customs charges can be paid in advance.

Without an agreed prepaid arrangement, you may be asked to pay import VAT and clearance charges before delivery.
