Translated by Ian Boland and with an Introduction by Heinrich Böll. Presumed UK first edition, first impression - American book ( published by Harcourt Brace Jovanovich ) in a UK ( Collins Harvill ) wrapper. First Edition stated, with a letter line beginning with B ( as called for with Harcourt First editions published between 1973 - 1983 ).

Wrapper : The wrapper on this copy is clean and sound. It is clipped. The cream lettering on the spine is faded ( not noticeable ) and the back panel is faded along the spine edge. Looks sharp.

Book : The book is square and tight. There are no previous ownership inscriptions. The boards are clean. The spine ends are bruised. The pages are clean.The closed page edges are bright. The binding is tight - no dog-eared pages or cracked hinges. No remainder marks. This copy has been SIGNED by Raymond Carver to the title page. Carver has also added London followed by an exclamation mark. An attractive copy in a protected wrapper.
