Asimov, Isaac - The Best of Isaac Asimov
A SIGNED UK first edition, first impression. A unique copy with a story to tell ! This copy was signed during Asimov's visit to the UK in 1974 - the copy is dated 14/6/74 by Asimov and comes with the rare brochure - Isaac Asimov : First Visit to England 1974. The following was told to me by the person who purchased the book from one of the people involved. It would seem that Asimov took a shine to the owner of this book, a lady attending a lecture of his on the 14th June in London. This caused something of a stir as the lady was with her husband. When Asmov wrote the following on the title page of the book, Astronomer Patrick Moore felt obliged to sign the book too as a way of difusing the tension. Asimov's inscription reads: To XX and, on request, Martin, with love and indifference respectively, Isaac Asimov (!).
The Wrapper : The wrapper on this copy is very bright, is unfaded, and is complete. It is unclipped. It shows a touch of shallow chipping at the base of the spine. Looks sharp.
The Book : The book is square and very tight. There are no previous ownership inscriptions. The boards are clean and unfaded, the corners sharp. There is a touch of slight bruising to the spine ends. The pages and closed page edges are clean and bright. The binding is tight - no cracked hinges. This copy has been SIGNED and inscribed by Asimov to the title. Patrick Moore has also SIGNED this copy on the ffep and has added : in admiration of the author. See above. The rare First Visit to Britain 1974 booklet is in Near Fine condition, showing gentle creasing to the spine. Unique.
