WRAPPER : The wrapper on this copy is bright, clean and unfaded. It is unclipped. It is lightly worn at the extremities. The spine and back panel are gently toned, the spine ends are scuffed. Looks sharp in protective plastic.

BOOK : The book is square and tight. The boards are clean - they are faded at the very edges. The spine ends are very lightly bruised and discoloured, the corners similarly. The pages are clean - there is ghosting to the endpapers. The closed page edges are unmarked. Upper edge blue - a later addition ? No dog-eared pages. Some straining to rear hinge after rear endpaper. There are no previous ownership inscriptions. A nice first American edition of this novel, adapted for screen in 1938. *
