Yours, Erle stanley Gardner February 1949. The recipient was Doctor R P Brittain, from the University of Glasgow - a doctor, criminologist and barrister. Brittain was lecturing in Harvard on Homicide Investigation and ( as he notes in the foreword ) Gardner attended the seminars while he was writing this book. In the foreword Gardner states : ...Brittain ..was not only a mine of information as to practical detective work on this side of the water, but was able to furnish the latest information as to British and European police methods of crime detection.
