WRAPPER : The wrapper on this copy is bright and complete. It is unclipped - showing the price $2.75 on the inside flap. The front panel is bright and unfaded, showing rubbing and surface creasing to the top edge and to the lower spine corner. The spine is sound and unfaded. The spine is scuffed, rubbed and nicked to both ends. The back panel shows light nicking and scuffing to the edges.

BOOK : The book is square and tight. There are no previous ownership inscriptions. The boards are clean. The upper corners are very gently bruised. The spine is unfaded. The spine ends are bruised. The text block is clean. No foxing. The closed page edges are very slightly dulled. No spotting. There are no dog-eared or loose pages. The binding is solid. No cracked hinges. This copy has been SIGNED and dedicated by Erle Stanley Gardner to the title page. The dedication reads : To Rob with lots of the best from Uncle Erle. Erle stanley Gardner June 1954. The recipient was Doctor R P Brittain, from the University of Glasgow - a doctor, criminologist and barrister. Brittain was lecturing in Harvard in 1948 on Homicide Investigation and Gardner attended the seminars while he was writing The Case of the Dubious Bridegroom. In the foreword to that book Gardner states : ...Brittain ..was not only a mine of information as to practical detective work on this side of the water, but was able to furnish the latest information
