Preceding the UK edition by a month. Original salmon cloth with black band to the head. A US first edition, first impression. The book is square, fresh and tight. The boards are clean and bright. There is minimal scuffing to the upper edges of the black band. The spine is lightly faded. The pages are clean and bright. No foxing. The closed page edges are slightly toned. The binding is solid - no cracked hinges. No dog-eared pages. There is an ownership inscription on the half title page - that of Raymond Sovey, the American set designer. The first performance of Brighton Rock as a play was at the Catholic University of America Theatre in Washington. Sovey is known to have worked at this theatre around this time and may well have worked on Brighton Rock. A nice copy in a protected wrapper.
