A UK first edition thus - the first edition to carry Tunnicliffe's illustrations. Uncommon.
Wrapper : The evocative wrapper on this copy is bright, unfaded and complete. It has been clipped. The front panel is bright. It is slightly soiled and gently rubbed at the top and bottom edges. The spine is intact. The green lettering has faded. There is wear ( including a small hole ) out of the main body of the spine where a label has been removed. It is very gently scuffed and bruised at the ends. The white back panel is sound. It is gently soiled and gently bruised at the top and bottom edges - rubbing and a couple of closed tears. Looks very sharp.
Book : The book is square and very tight. The boards are clean and bright. The corners are sharp. It shows light bruising to the spine ends. The pages are clean. The closed page edges are sound - the top edge is slightly dusty, lightly toned and gently flecked. No dog-eared pages. The binding is tight - no cracked hinges. There is a small neat ownership inscription on the reverse of the ffep. A nice copy in a protected wrapper.
