A UK first edition (stated First Published in 1936 on the copyright page) - in a first edition jacket that has been clipped and had a number printed on the spine for use on subsequent editions.
Wrapper: The evocative period wrapper on this copy is bright and complete. It has been clipped and the price 4/6 has been stamped on the inside flap. The front panel is bright and unfaded, showing gentle bruising, light wear and surface creasing to all the edges. The spine is clean and unfaded. It shows a touch of rubbing and scuffing to the ends. The white back panel is bright. It shows gentle wear at the top and bottom edges. Looks very sharp in protective plastic.
Book: The book is square and very tight. The boards are clean and unfaded. The corners are sound. The pages are clean. No foxing. The closed page edges are bright - the top edge shows one or two random spots. There are no loose or dog-eared pages. The binding is solid and without cracked hinges. There is a small, contemporary (1943) inscription on the ffep. A nice copy in a protected wrapper.
