Newman, Bernard - Maginot Line Murder
The first great thriller of the Western Front. A UK First Edition Thus - originally published in January 1939, the author re-wrote the book in such a way as to make the story apply to the first few weeks of the war rather than the six months preceding it. This re-written version was published in October 1939. Unusual in its jacket. The publisher's File Copy with a corresponding pencil annotation on the front cover. Unique thus.
WRAPPER : The wrapper on this copy is bright, complete and unclipped. It shows light overall soiling and gentle scuffing to the spine ends. The spine is gently sunned and is scuffed at the spine / front panel gutter. Looks sharp in protective plastic.
BOOK : The book is tight. The blue boards are clean and are unfaded. The corners are sharp. The spine ends are bruised. The text block is clean - it is toning. The closed page edges are toned and lightly flecked. There are no loose or dog-eared pages. The binding is tight, the hinges are solid. There are no previous ownership inscriptions. A very nice copy in a protected wrapper.
