Jean-Paul Sartre's first novel. First published in French in 1938 as La Nausée and then in 1949 in the UK under the title The Diary of Antoine Roquentin. This is the first appearance of this book to be published in English under its original title. A UK first edition thus.

WRAPPER : The wrapper on this copy ( designed by Patricia Davey ) is bright, unfaded and complete. It is unclipped, showing the price 16s on the inside flap. It shows toning to the margins of the white back panel and to the white lettering on the spine. The spine ends are lightly scuffed. The reverse of the wrapper is stained - this does not affect the front of the wrapper. Looks sharp in protective plastic.

BOOK : The book is square and tight. The boards are clean and unfaded. The corners are are trivially bruised. The pages are clean. No foxing. The closed page edges are dusty and toned. There are no loose or dog-eared pages. The binding is solid and without cracked hinges. There are no previous ownership inscriptions. A sound copy in a protected wrapper.
