Probably A UK reprint - though stated first edition 1938 on the copyright page. Certainly a later issue wrapper - though almost certainly a first edition wrapper that has been clipped and re-priced and then stamped with a small Ward Lock number on the spine.
Wrapper: The evocative period wrapper on this copy is bright and complete. It has been clipped and re-priced by the publisher (5/-). The front panel is bright and unfaded, showing gentle wear (bruising, surface creasing) to the upper and lower edges. The spine is clean. It has slightly faded and it shows gentle rubbing and scuffing to the ends. The white back panel is sound. It is toned to the edges and shows a trace of wear at the top edge. Looks sharp in protective plastic.
Book: The book is square and very tight. The orange boards are clean and unfaded. The corners are sharp. The spine ends are gently bruised. The pages are clean. No foxing. The closed page edges are tanned with age. There are no loose or dog-eared pages. The binding is solid and without cracked hinges. There are no previous ownership inscriptions. A nice copy in a protected wrapper.
