Wells' first published book. With 24 plates drawn by H G Wells. No adverts. Ex Bodleian Library collection, given on publication in May 1893 - see stamp. A UK first edition. Publisher's dark green cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine. No wrappers. The books are square and tight. The boards are generally clean and unfaded. They are a little rubbed at the bottom edges. The spine on volume 2 is a little dulled. The spine ends are gently bruised. The lettering on the spine is bold. The pages are clean - no foxing. The closed page edges are dulled - more so on volume 2. There is light bruising to the page corners. The binding is tight, the hinges are fragile but solid. There are no loose pages. There are no previous ownership inscriptions. A very nice set.
