A UK first edition. Original grey cloth titled in black, with the Heinemann publisher's device on rear board. With the copyright page dated 1898 and with 16 pages of adverts ( undated ) at the rear. An ex special collections library copy - little used ( it was taken out twice ) and not horribly marred by over zealous librarians. There is a bookplate on the front pastedown, two stamps on the title page, a tiny number on the spine panel, a pocket on the rear pastedown and a label on the rear endpaper. The book is square and tight. The boards are clean. The spine ends and corners are lightly rubbed. The pages are clean, showing the occasional spot throughout. The uncut closed page edges are toned and slightly dusty. The binding is solid - no cracked hinges. There is a small, neat previous ownership inscription on the half title page. A nice copy in a protected wrapper.
